Alive & Kicking Rocks, Swings New York Ave. Beach

Summer concert series kicks off in Long Beach.

The City of Long Beach’s 2012 Concert Series kicked off earlier this week, first with Simply Tzfat performing at Long Beach Boulevard beach, followed the next day by Alive & Kicking, a band whose repertoire of songs crosses many genres, from rock to reggae to swing (see photos by Robert Shanley).

Check out this year's schedule below (all concerts start at 8 p.m.):

  • Monday, July 2—Long Beach Road Beach: Simply Tzfat. A trio (two guitars and one violin) of Breslav Hassidic musicians from the mystical city of Tsfat, the birthplace of modern Kabbalah. 
  •  Tuesday, July 3—New York Avenue Beach:Alive & Kicking. From Rock to Reggae and Swing to Sinatra plus their hit “Tighter and Tighter.”
  •  Thursday, July—Neptune Boulevard Beach: Vintage Bliss. Performing songs that span decades, from Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin and the great ladies of jazz, to Motown and beyond.
  •  Monday, July 9—National Boulevard Beach:High Tide. Enjoy classic calypso sounds.
  •  Wednesday, July 11—New   York Avenue: All Together Now. More than just a Beatles tribute band.
  •  Thursday, July 12—Neptune Beach: Jerry Costenzo. Bringing The Great American Song Book into the 21st century.
  •  Friday, July 13—Long Beach Boulevard: Killer Joe. *Fireworks Show.* “Bodyguard To The Blues” (Blues, Soul, Old-time R & R).
  •  Monday, July 16—National Boulevard Beach: Stevie Shaiman's Big Band. Dedicated to the performance of Americas greatest popular standards.
  •  Wednesday, July 18—New York Avenue Beach: Real Hot Lanta. Classic rock n’ roll music of the Allman Bros., Eric Clapton and Janis Joplin.
  •  Thursday, July 19—Neptune Boulevard Beach:Steel Horse. Classic rock band bringing you songs from   Marshall Tucker, The Beatles, Van Halen, Pat Benatar, Aerosmith and more.
  •  Monday, July 23—National Boulevard Beach: T’bazco Road. Enjoy the music of New Orleans, and Cajun Zydeco.
  •  Wednesday, July 25—New York Avenue Beach: Ric Mango. Playing the beach for over 20 years a selection of music for everyone.
  •  Thursday, July 26—Neptune Boulevard Beach: F O G A Classic Rock n’ Blues Cover Band featuring our own local residents.
  • Monday, July 30—National Boulevard Beach: Los Playeros. The Sounds of Latin Jazz
  •  Wednesday, Aug. 1—New York Avenue Beach:Risky Business (Sponsored by Sterrer Realty). Rock n’ Roll & Rhythm n’ Blues.
  •  Thursday, Aug. 2—Neptune Boulevard Beach: Mary Lamont. Country Music.
  • Monday, Aug. 6—National Boulevard Beach: Rockinghams. 60’s Band.
  •  Wednesday, Aug. 8—New York Avenue Beach:New Yorkers. Oldies Good Time Band.
  •  Thursday, Aug. 9—Neptune Boulevard Beach: Joe Kane’s Big Band.
  •  Monday, Aug. 13—National Boulevard Beach: Chiclettes.
  •  Wednesday, Aug. 15—New York Avenue Beach: Irish Night with Andy Cooney. Unique Celtic music performed with fire and  passion.
  • Thursday, Aug. 16—Neptune Boulevard Beach: Turnpike Joe & The Traffic Jam. New York’s Premier Classic Rock/Party Band.
  •  Monday, Aug. 20—National Boulevard Beach: 6 Gun-Country. Country with a Kick!
  •  Wednesday, Aug. 22—New York Avenue Beach: Italian Night. Con Astone Contemporary music flavored with Italian favorites.
  • Thursday, Aug. 23—Neptune Boulevard Beach: Yiddish Night: Shlomie Dachs Vast repertoire of Klezmer, Yiddish, Russian and Israeli music.
  •  Monday, Aug. 27—National Boulevard Beach: Linda Ipanema: & The Dixie Chicks. Dixieland, Jazz, Big Bands, Polka, 50’s Band.
  • Wednesday, Aug. 29—New York Avenue Beach: TBA.
