City Council Member To Join Fire Commissioner Board?
Council representatives to vote Tuesday on whether to designate one of its own to the fire department's top brass.

LONG BEACH, NY – A member of the Long Beach City Council may be appointed a commissioner of the city’s fire department.
The newly installed council will vote Tuesday on a resolution proposing to have one of it five members serve on the Long Beach Fire Department’s board of fire commissioners, according to the council meeting’s Jan. 18 agenda.
“...the City Council of the City of Long Beach wishes to designate one of its members to serve on the City’s Board of Fire Commissioners,...” reads the agenda item.

The name of the council person does not appear on the agenda, nor the name of the commissioner the council member would replace. The LBFD has a five-member board of commissioners.
Tina Posterli, a former member of the Long Beach Board of Education, was elected to the city council November 2021, along with incumbent Roy Lester. The council's other incumbents include Liz Treston, who was elected in 2019; Karen McInnis, who has sat on the council since 2019 and was elected president on Jan. 4; and John Bendo, the former president. Donna Gayden was hired as city manager in 2020.

Patch on Tuesday morning reached out to the city and fire department for comment on the resolution but calls were not immediately returned.
