Contract Renewals, Cost Transfer on City Council's Agenda

Bus fee and water rate hikes proposed for future meeting.

The Long Beach City Council on Tuesday will be asked to vote to renew sludge management and fireworks contracts, as well as to hold a future hearing on a proposal to raise bus fare and water rates, among other resolutions.

City Manager Jack Schnirman will seek the council's authorization to renew a five-year contract with the Flushing-based Tully Environmental for the dewatering, transport and disposal of the city’s wastewater treatment sludge at an annual cost of abouot $608,000, according to the council’s June 5 agenda.

Moreover, Pyro Engineering, located in Farmingdale, wants to resupply the city with fireworks for its annual fireworks show, to be held July 13, at a cost of $25,000. The resolution states that the costs will be paid “entirely through sponsorship monies and fees paid by vendors who will be on the boardwalk for the City’s Arts and Crafts Festival."

The city manager will also ask for the council’s authorization to pass on $6,470.00 in administrative costs to the owners of buildings with 60 or more units included under the Emergency Tenant Protection Act.

Council members will also consider whether to authorize hearings to amend the code of ordinances for city bus fares — including a proposed $2 per ride within city limits and $2.50 per ride between the city and Point Lookout — as well as for a proposed increase to water and sewer rates, as listed in the resolution:
