Lynbrook Man Gets Six Years for East Meadow Slashing

A Lynbrook man has been sentenced to six years in prison for slashing a bouncer at RC Dugans in East Meadow, according to the Nassau County District Attorney's office.

According to officials, in Feb. 2010, Thomas King, 21, got into an argument with a security guard because he was denied entrance due to being underage. After one of the bouncers followed King to the parking lot, King slashed the bouncer three times with a sharp object, according to police.

The victim suffered severe lacerations to the top of his head, right side of his face and left side of his neck, with caused permanent scarring. King was arrested by Nassau County Police on March 9, 2010.

Dozen People Robbed in Cedarhurst Home 

A group of men broke into a residence in Cedarhurst early Friday morning and held up 12 people, forcing them to lie on the floor at gunpoint while robbing them, according to police.

At approximately 1:15 a.m., four or five black males wearing bandanas over their faces forcibly entered the home, police said.

According to police, two of the subjects displayed handguns. The men ordered the one female and 11 male victims to lay on the floor while they went through pockets and took cell phones, jewelry and an unknown amount of cash. More money and jewelry was removed from two safes belonging to the residents.

One victim suffered minor injuries after being kicked by one of the subjects, police said.

There is no further description of the subjects, who fled the scene in an unknown direction.

Inwood Man Dies After Crashing Into Tree

An Inwood man died early Saturday after he struck a tree with his car on Clinton Street in Cedarhurst, according to police.

Luis Zepeda, 30, was driving his black 2004 Nissan Maxima around 2 a.m. Saturday when he apparently lost control and struck a tree after turning from West Broadway, police said. A 29-year-old male passenger suffered a minor abrasion to his left knee. Zepeda suffered from thoracic bleeding and a right hip fracture.

Both men both transported to South Nassau hospital for treatment. Zepeda was pronounced dead at 5:52 a.m.

Detectives report no apparent criminality with the accident at this time. The vehicle was impounded for a safety inspection. 

Woman Robbed of iPhone in Lawrence 

A man approached a 60-year-old woman from behind on Wednesday on Lawrence Avenue in Lawrence, twisted her arm and stole her iPhone, according to police.

The woman was walking on the residential street around 9:12 a.m. when a black man described to be in his early twenties stole the phone and fled southbound in a tan colored 2007 Ford Edge with New Jersey plate number U28AEW driven by a female, polie said. No injuries were reported.

The suspect is described as dark skinned, 5’3”, 130 lbs. with a thin build and wearing a red baseball cap, beige t-shirt and Bermuda style plaid shorts. The driver of the vehicle is only described as a black female with a heavy build.

Arrests

  • James Johnson, 28, of Long Beach was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated at Pettit Place in Island Park.
  • George Lopez Jr., 47, of East Hudson Street was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a knife, menacing and aggravated harassment contact due to religion-race on East Hudson Street on July 7.
  • Stanislav Shumeikin, 26, of Island Park was arrested and charged with falsifying business records and petit larceny at East Park Avenue on July 8.
  • Maria F. DeRafael, 64, of Sunnyside, was arrested on July 9 and charged with second-degree obstructing governmental administration and peddling without a license after she was observed by police officers selling glow necklaces and other toys near South Park Avenue during the RVC Anniversary Fireworks Celebration.
  • Stephen Ramsundar, 48, and Jennie Ramsundar, 47, both of Ozone Park, were arrested on July 14 and charged with shoplifting Aleve tablets, micro sculpting cream and CoQ10 tablets at Costco in North Lawrence.

Illegal Alcohol Sales

  • Police officers reportedly observed two men working at separate stores on Meacham Avenue in Elmont sell alcoholic beverages to underage customers on July 13. Cops say they saw Dimitri Cochran, of Brentwood, while working at the USA Gas Mini Mart, and Jose Ramos, of Queens, an employee at Eze’s Deli, each sell a single can of Coors Light to an underaged person.
  • While working at Elmont Wine and Liquor on Hempstead Turnpike, Thomas Jaimon, of Queens, was charged with after hours sale of alcoholic beverage. After receiving complaints from community members who said the store was selling liquor past the operating hours allowed by Nassau County (8 p.m.), officers paid a visit on July 13. They observed the store conduct multiple transactions between 8:45 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. During this time, an officer entered the store and purchased one half pint of Jack Daniels
