David Velez to Join State Student Leaders
He's also accomplished at badminton and is active in the science research program.
Name: David Velez
Age: 15
School: Long Beach High School
Accomplishment: David was chosen to represent his school at the Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership (HOBY) Seminar in June. He will meet with 120 other “HOBY Ambassadors” from all over New York State to participate in a series of activities to help them identify and develop their individual leadership strengths.
Key to his success: David was chosen for this honor because he demonstrated outstanding leadership potential in school and community activities, according to LBHS officials.
He is secretary of the Sophomore Class and a member of the Asian Culture Club. He is a two-year All-County badminton player, performs in the Select Choir and high school musical productions, and is active in the science research program. Outside of school, he teaches music classes in his church’s children’s ministry.
