Feb. 7: Polar Bears Video, North Park History, Town News

Visit Patch each morning to get the scoop on what's happening in Long Beach.

Football season officially ended yesterday when the Green Bay Packers defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XLV. It's time to head back to work and school and talk about two things: 1) the big game; 2) what’s happing right here on Patch on Monday:

1. So you didn’t make it down to Riverside Boulevard Beach for the Long Beach Polar Bears Club annual dip in the Atlantic along with thousands of other cold-water enthusiasts? No worries, Patch will bring you video of the event later today. Meanwhile, check out the many photos of the event posted here.

2. Stop by again this afternoon for Patch’s continuing series on Long Beach’s history. This time we’ll take a look back at the early years of the North Park neighborhood. Check out our stories on the Presidents Streets, the railroad and the as well as a notable block and home.

3. High school hoops fans, look out for our coverage of Long Beach boys’ basketball game against Bellmore-JFK.

4. While Long Beach Patch's focus is to strictly cover the city, we do feature some stories about news or people from surrouding towns (usually as it relates to Long Beach), and we do have readers from Lido Beach, Point Lookout, Atlantic Beach and Island Park. So, we thought we’d post some news about the Town of Hempstead each weekend. Stop by on Sundays for our Town of Hempstead Notebook.

5. Got some questions you’d like to ask about Long Beach? You can post a question to the Patch community on our Q&A feature. Your question will appear on the right sidebar, and readers can share their knowledge with you
