Film on Quiksilver Event Debuts at Long Beach Cinema

a documentary about Point Lookout pro surfer Balaram Stack, was one of four films that were scheduled to debut at Surf Movie Night, a surfing film festival held at Long Beach Cinema on April 13.

Directed by Patrick Cummings and E.J. McLeavey-Fisher, the 15-minute documentary depicts what it was like for Stack, then 19, to go up against all odds and compete with some of the world’s best surfers, including then 10-time champion Kelly Slater, at the Quicksilver Pro New York held in Long Beach last September.

Leading up to the festival on Friday night, News 12 featured a segment about the documentary [paid link].

The festival, a collaboration between Long Beach Surfers Association (LBSA) and SMASH (Surf, Movies, Art, Shaping and History), also featured the films “Lapsed Catholics: What The Surf Magazines Don’t Tell You,” “By The Way,” and “Couch Tour,” all by local filmmakers.
