Jan. 14: Give Blood, See an Ayn Rand Play

Here's what's happening Friday in Long Beach.

It’s Friday and we’re working feverishly to finish a few interesting stories for you before the busy weekend rolls around. Meanwhile, here's what you need to know:

1. Blood is needed. So why not donate? Head over to City Hall any time between 11:45 a.m. and 5:45 p.m. and give blood.

2. We’ll post a story and video on a colorful Long Beach radio personality whose focus is strictly on the positive people and goings-on in the city. Feel free to leave comments.

3. It got pushed back to today. That is, our story we mentioned yesterday that looks at how residents of a particular neighborhood dig out after a snowstorm. Again, your comments are welcomed.

4. Hey sports fans, the Long Beach High School boys’ basketball team heads to Valley Stream Central. Tip off is at 6:15 p.m.

5. Attention theater fans! Hofstra University will stage a production of “Night of January 16th,” a play by Ayn Rand, author of “Atlas Shrugged.” Opening night is tonight at 8 p.m. For tickets and information, call John Cranford Adams Playhouse Box Office at 516-463-6644, Monday to Friday from 11 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. or visit hofstra.edu/hofstraentertainment.
