June 20: Lifeguards Everyday, Salsa Mondays, Civil War Lecture

Get the scoop on what's happening each weekday in Long Beach.

You honored your fathers yesterday and now it's time to head back to work. Here's a few things we think you need to know on this Monday that brings mostly cloudy skies with a high in the mid-70s:

1. Monday marks the start of the first full week when lifeguards are on duty at the beach everyday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Remember to keep safe when swimming and check out the surfing schedule for east and west end beaches.

2. Put on your dancing shoes and head over to the Allegria Hotel for Salsa Mondays from 7 p.m. to 12 a.m. The Latin music gets cranked up at 7:30 p.m., at which time there is complimentary dancing instruction until 8:15 p.m.

3. What part did Jewish people play in the Civil War? Bud Livingston, author and past president of the Civil War Roundtable of New York, will lead a lecture on American Jewry & The Civil War at the Long Beach Public Library at 2 p.m.
