Kemins Appointed LBFD Fire Commissioner

Ex-chief has served 31 years with the department.

Scott Kemins, ex-chief of the Long Beach Fire Department, was appointed commissioner, the City of Long Beach announced Friday.

City Manager Charles Theofan, who previously served as commissioner, appointed Kemins, who has worked with the LBFD for 31 years. He started with the department as a firefighter and served as chief, an elected position, from 1989-1997, 2001-2005 and 2010-2011. He was Nassau County Fire Commissioner from 1997 to 2001, serving as chairman from 2000 to 2001.

Kemins is presently 1st deputy fire commissioner for the building department for the City of Long Beach. He is married and has two daughters.
