LI Fisherman Drowns After Falling Into Ocean: Police
The man was pronounced dead on Sunday morning, police said.
LONG BEACH, NY — A man drowned in Long Beach on Sunday morning, police said.
DiLou Liu. 67, of Queens, had walked out on the jetties and was fishing when he fell into the ocean at about 11 a.m., Long Beach police said.
The city's animal control and fire department personnel pulled Liu from the ocean at Monroe Boulevard. They gave Liu lifesaving measures, but he was pronounced dead at a local hospital a short time later, police said.

Acting Police Commissioner Richard DePalma said he believes the tragic situation could have been avoided and issued a warning.
"The jetties are not safe to walk on at any time. They are very dangerous due to the slippery surfaces and are surrounded by waters with strong currents," DePalma said.
