Long Beach Gears Up For 20th Anniversary Polar Plunge
Thousands of Super Bowl Sunday splashers are expected at the charity event on Sunday.

Long Beach, NY — This Sunday, Feb. 2, will be the 20th annual Super Bowl polar plunge in Long Beach. The longstanding tradition, hosted by the Long Beach Polar Bear Club, kicks off at noon at Riverside Boulevard boardwalk. A group splash begins at 1:30 p.m. Proceeds from the popular event benefit Make-A-Wish Foundation of New York.
Attendees must sign a waiver before they access the beach either online or the morning of at the beach. Because of the high number of attendees expected the City of Long Beach and the Long Beach Polar Bear Club urge visitors to car pool and take public transportation. The beach is a half mile walk from the Long Island Railroad station.
The city is offering free shuttle buses to and from the event from 10:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. from the train station on the East End and from Ohio Avenue and Beech Street on the West End. Boardwalk entrances closest to the festivities are at Edwards Boulevard, Riverside Boulevard, Long Beach Boulevard and National Boulevard.

The Annual Super Bowl Splash was created in honor of Paulie Bradley who passed away at only four years old. The plunge has raised almost $7 million dollars for the foundation that grants wishes to children with critical illnesses since its inception in 2000.
