May 10: School Board Meets, Radio Free Long Beach, Math Bee

Get the scoop on what's happening each weekday in Long Beach.

1. The Long Beach Board of Education will hold a regular meeting at 7:30 p.m. at Long Beach Middle School. The board will announce the appointment of a new superintendent.

2. On the home sports schedule, boys' tennis plays Garden City at 4:30 p.m. at Long Beach High School, and girls' lacrosse takes on MacArthur at 4:45 p.m. at the middle school. Patch will cover both games.

3. Long Beach radio personality Halftime Howie hosts his show Broadcasting On The Beach each Tuesday at 8 p.m. on AM 1240 WGBB. Tune in tonight as Howie promotes several upcoming city events, including the Long Beach Lions Club Golf Classic, Dog Walk for A Cause, Greenfest and Relay for Life.

4. Long Beach Catholic Regional School will hold a math bee for students in sixth through eighth grades starting at 1 p.m.

5. Later on Patch, our Tuesday feature 100 Things To Do In Long Beach will spotlight Oceanview, the West End street that is closed to traffic and home to many runners, bikers and walkers. Also, watch our final video in a series that profiles the three candidates running for school board this year. Board President Dr. Dennis Ryan will give his platform after we previously featured incumbent Patrick Gallagher and challenger Ari Pine.
