May 24: City Budget Hearing, Job Fair, Musical Talk

Get the scoop on what's happening each weekday in Long Beach.

The second day of the work week brings many activities in Long Beach. Here are just some we think you should know about:

1. The Long Beach City Council holds a second hearing on the city manager's proposed 2011-12 budget and will vote on the plan. The hearing starts at 7 p.m. at City Hall.

2. Are you searching for employment or a new career? The Long Beach Public Library will host a job fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Representatives in fields from health care to law enforcement will meet with potential applicants.

3. Long Beach radio personality Halftime Howie hosts his show Broadcasting On The Beach each Tuesday at 8 p.m. on AM 1240 WGBB. Tonight's show features talks about music with local performers, led by Johanna Mathieson-Ellmer, producer of the Barrier Beach Blues and Arts Festival; Roger Gengo, who will rap about hip hop; and Con Astone, who will discuss classical.

4. The Long Beach Tea Party Patriots will hold a meeting at 7:30 p.m. at the library.

5. In case you missed it yesterday, Patch posted a story on the city's efforts to correct a problem with raw sewage that springs for a grating at the West Park-Lindell intersection, and later this morning we'll have a story on the changes at the principal position at the middle school.
