May 31: Eventful Memorial Day, Art Exhibit, Mediation with Lisa

Get the scoop on what's happening each weekday in Long Beach.

1. Memorial Day proved to be an eventful holiday in Long Beach. If you were too busy to visit Patch, here's some of the stories you may have missed: A Long Beach man was shot in the face in the wee hours of Monday morning, the Memorial Day parade honored Vietnam veterans as the Long Beach Police Department celebrated its 100th anniversary, a brawl broke out on the beach and a "mini riot"  in the middle of town, and the Loop Parkway was shut down and eight people were sent to area hospitals after an auto accident there.

2. Today is the last day to catch an art exhibit of Rich Verity's oil paintings from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Earth Arts  West Park Avenue.

3. Learn meditation With Lisa Wisel at the Long Beach Public Library starting at 2:15 p.m. Wisel will teach participants the techniques that assist in meditation, as well as renewal of energy and focused breathing.

4. Long Beach radio personality Halftime Howie hosts his show Broadcasting On The Beach each Tuesday at 8 p.m. on AM 1240 WGBB.
