Motorist Pulled from Overturned Minivan

Trapped driver extricated and taken to area hospital.

A motorist overturned her vehicle and was trapped inside in Long Beach early Sunday morning.

According to Nassau County Police, a 47-year-old woman driving a Ford minivan on the 300 block of West Beech Street overturned the vehicle onto the driver’s side and was entrapped during the 6 a.m. hour June 19.

The Long Beach Fire Department, which received the call about the accident at 6:38 a.m., arrived at the scene within three minutes, according to LBFD Chief Richard Corbett. Firefighters used a hurst tool to extricate her from the vehicle.

“Immediately, the first medics on [the] scene entered the vehicle via the rear window while other firefighters stabilized the auto and started to use the ‘jaws of life’ to remove the roof of the vehicle to gain full access to the driver and have a safe passage way for her to be removed,” Corbett wrote in a text message to Patch.

The driver was removed from the vehicle within 12 minutes, Corbett noted.

An LBFD ambulance transported the woman to South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside.
