More Snow Into Thursday, Long Beach Schools Cancel Late Activities

National Weather Service anticipates 3-7 inches more for Long Beach area.

Even more snow is headed to the Long Beach area tonight. That's right — more snow.

With a few inches of fresh snow and ice already on the ground, the National Weather Service has issues a Winter Storm Warning, with a potential 3 to 7 inches falling overnight into Thursday morning. And with temperatures dropping to around 26 degrees, coupled with predictions of medium-strength wind gusts, a frustrating commute could be on hand for Thursday morning.

The Long Island Rail Road will operate on its Snow Recovery Schedule on Thursday morning. Two early-morning peak trains on the Long Beach Branch — the 6:54 a.m. and 8:03 a.m. — have been canceled. But there are several trains running at around the same times, so commuters shouldn't worry too much. This schedule is subject to change, and commuters are urged to visit mta.info for updates.

The Long Beach School District announced that all afternoon and evening activities for Thursday have been cancelled. No decision has been made on whether or not the district will remain open on Thursday. Residents can keep an eye on the district website for updates, and can check plans for administering Regents/mid-year exams.

Long Beach Patch will continue to provide updates on the storm.
