Nassau County Watches Atlantic For Henri Track

MINEOLA, NY — Tropical Storm Henri is expected to gain strength in the Atlantic and could pose a threat for Long Island's south shore.

Henri could become a category 1 hurricane and potentially impact Nassau County by Sunday or Monday with a mix of wind, rain and storm surge, the National Hurricane Center says.

County Executive Laura Curran says they will "monitor the track of Henri," in a statement on Facebook.

There have not been any advisories put into effect for Long Island, but the county is closely watching the forecast and what it might mean for high tides and coastal flooding.

"I advise all residents visiting our beaches to take caution in the water and follow lifeguard instructions, as we expect dangerously strong rip currents and wave strength as the storm moves closer," Curran said.
