Question of the Day: Does Long Beach Need Parking Meters?

City Manager Charles Theofan nixed a proposal to install parking meters in Long Beach as part of the original 2011-12 budget, an item that was projected to generate about $450,000 in annual revenue for the city.
This proposal originated with a traffic engineer firm’s city-wide study, conducted about two years ago, to improve parking, and it involved installing muni meters in the business district along Park Avenue, between Long Beach and National boulevards. The city manager said he is still interested in possibly pursuing the proposal down the road:
