A 3-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle in Long Beach and was transported in serious condition to the Nassau University Medical Center on Sunday afternoon.
According to Scott Kemins, ex-chief of the Long Beach Fire Department, a motorist struck the boy on the westbound side of West Park Avenue at about 3:30 p.m. on May 1.
“He was struck opposite the Beach Café,” Kemins said.
A LBFD ambulance transported the boy to NUMC in East Meadow with a head injury and in serious condition, Kemins said.

“I don’t know the details of the accident itself, but I believe the boy was with his mother and he darted out into the left lane of traffic and he got clipped by the car,” Kemins said.
The motorists was described as a male who drove a four-by-four truck, he added. A sergeant at Long Beach Police Department declined to give details about the accident until the public information officer returns to the precinct on Monday.

Rich Corbett, chief of the LBFD, who escorted the boy the NUMC, said that it appeared that the boy was alert and conscious in the emergency room. "His parents were there with him, which made him happier after he was surrounded by a bunch of strangers," Corbett said about the boy.
Shelley Lotenberg, NUMC director of public affairs, said the boy was transferred to Cohen Children's Medical Center at North Shore LIJ in New Hyde Park, but she was unable to comment on his condition.
