Trustee: Long Beach Aiming to Get Schools Open by Nov. 14

School Board Trustee Patrick Gallagher spoke with the Superintendent David Weiss and their aim is to try and get the schools up and running on Tues., Nov. 14.

As far as where children will attend school, they are following this schedule:

...Split sessions at the high school in which high school students will attend classes during the morning and middle school students during the afternoon.

  • Lindell School can pick up all West School students.
  • East School can pick up all other students.
There is talk of sending the pre-school students to the new classrooms at the Lido Complex; since it is in good shape and they will be moving there once construction is completed.

"The problem is - short-term - is that Long Beach families with children are scattered all over the metropolitan area," Gallagher said.

This plan, however, is pending on electricity. Some of the schools do have generators and water is available.

According to Gallagher, 80 percent of all school employees live in Long Beach. Around 50 percent of the teachers in Long Beach, estimated Gallagher.

The superintenent is scheduled to meet with the teachers Tuesday morning at Lindell School. Board President Roy Lester is attempting to get an executive session organized for Tuesday evening.

"Things are constantly changing," Gallagher added.
