Voter Information: Absentee Ballot Deadline Extended to Today

The State Board of Elections met in an emergency meeting late Thursday and approved an extension of the deadline for absentee ballot applications as New Yorkers continue to deal with the destruction of the hurricane. The original deadline for applications transmitted by mail, fax or letter was Oct. 30. It is now today, Friday, Nov. 2.

Voters may still go to Nassau County Board of Elections located at 240 Old Country Road, Mineola, and cast an absentee ballot in person up to Monday, Nov. 5. The phone number is 516-571-VOTE (8683) or 516-571-2411.

The polls will be open on Tuesday, Nov. 6 from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. For changes to any poll site please check the Board of elections website, www.elections.ny.gov.

The State Board also acted to extend the deadline for absentee ballots themselves to be returned to the Board of Elections by an additional 6 days, from Nov. 13 to Nov. 19. Ballots returned by mail must be postmarked by Monday, Nov. 5.

Completed absentee ballots may also be submitted in person by a voters designee to the Board of Elections before polls close on election day, Tuesday, Nov. 6, by 9 p.m.
