Assault Charge After Officer Injured In Traffic Stop On Long Island: Police
The officer was taken to a nearby hospital, police say.

VALLEY STREAM, NY — A Hempstead man pulled over in a traffic stop, resisted arrest and injured an officer on Wednesday in Valley Stream, Nassau police said.
Officers were conducting a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop of a 2012 Dodge Challenger near Hook Creek Boulevard and 136th Avenue at around 2:30 p.m., when they determined the driver, Albert Dodson was driving the vehicle with a suspended license, according to police.
While trying to place him under arrest, he became combative and began to resist, injuring an officer, who was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, police said.

Dodson is charged with second-degree assault and aggravated unlicensed operation, resisting arrest, and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, as well as multiple other Vehicle and Traffic Law violations.
He is scheduled for this arraignment on Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead.
