One officer was taken to a local hospital for treatment of an injured arm, Nassau police say.

LAKEVIEW, NY — A 16-year-old girl was charged with assault in connection with fighting with an officer who confronted her for leaving her home without permission in Lakeview on Saturday night, Suffolk police said.

The teen had "absconded from" her home without permission at around 4:40 p.m., and officers found her running in the middle of traffic, then detained her for her safety, according to police. During the investigation, she became violent and combative, causing a struggle to
ensue, and kicked, scratched, spit, and punched an officer, causing his body-
worn camera to break, police said.

One officer's arm was injured and he was taken to a local hospital for treatment, police said, adding that the girl was placed into custody and taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
