Good Deeds Earn Mohler a Halo

Lynbrook senior's charitable work to be featured on Nickelodeon documentary.

Lynbrook High School senior Raymond Mohler Jr. will be a guest on the new Nickelodeon documentary series, The Halo Effect, which premieres in January, due to his charitable work.

Each episode of the show, which is hosted by actress Sydney Park, profiles a young activist making a positive change in their community, inspiring others to do the same.

The crew that has been filming Mohler visited Lynbrook High School on Nov. 20. Park presented Mohler with a check for $10,000 for the Little St. Nick Foundation, a local nonprofit Mohler founded when he was 5 years old. He will be featured in a March or April episode.

The show will highlight how Mohler’s foundation provides hospitals with toys, books, DVDs and arts and crafts to help ill children cope with their pain. He founded the organization after experiencing his own medical challenges when he was diagnosed with a rare hip disease. His treatments required long hospital stays. After being discharged from the hospital, he was touched by the plight of other children who were not fortunate enough to go home. Because of that, Mohler donated half of his unwrapped holiday toys to the kids he left behind.

From that first act of charity, the Little St. Nick Foundation was born. Over the years, the organization has donated more than 500,000 toys, entertainment centers, electronics and other gifts to various hospitals. Mohler continues to visit children in emergency rooms, leaving gift bags to help them pass the time. To contribute further to this cause, visit www.littlestnick.org.
