Keri Kelleher Named Special Ed Coordinator for Lynbrook Public Schools

At the August 14 meeting of the Lynbrook Board of Education, board members unanimously approved the appointment of Keri A. Kelleher to serve as the district’s K-12 coordinator of special education, effective August 15.

Ms. Kelleher most recently served as assistant director of special education for the North Babylon School District, a post she has held since March 2012. Prior to this appointment, she had served as the district’s coordinator of special education since 2007.

During her tenure in the North Babylon district, Ms. Kelleher assisted with the preparation and implementation of an extended school year program for students with special needs, reviewed the progress of students who were placed in out-of-district programs and chaired building - and district-level CSE meetings. Ms. Kelleher also organized and coordinated staff development to help teachers meet new state mandates. In addition, she supervised and observed teachers to enhance the effectiveness of their instruction.

Prior to her tenure as an administrator, Ms. Kelleher served as a special education teacher at the Seaford and North Babylon school districts and at Western Suffolk BOCES.

Among her many skills, Ms. Kelleher is proficient in IEP Direct, trained in the MAC School Student Management System and certified in the Wilson Reading Program. She is a member of the Association of Curriculum and Development and the Council for Exceptional Children.

Ms. Kelleher holds a master’s degree in reading from Dowling College and a bachelor’s degree in child study/special education from St. Joseph’s College. She earned her professional diploma in administration and supervision from Queens College.
