Sunflower Bake Shop is one of the best kept secrets in Western Nassau. It is a small family run bakery where they bake everything from scratch, just like Grandma used to make. The couple who run the shop are friendly, helpful and are willing to answer all your questions. This is an allergen friendly bakery. They have a separate kitchen for all their gluten free baking. Their cakes, cookies, brownies, cupcakes and cheesecakes taste like the real thing. You would never know it is gluten free.

The same holds true for their vegan goodies. Vegan baking can be tricky. Some recipes convert easily while others require a separate and unique reformulation. Because of the absence of eggs, the baking chemistry is different. The vegan baked goods are amazing. If you don’t tell the non vegans that it is, in fact, vegan, they will never know. Everything is fresh, moist and delicious. The home made flavor really comes through.

This bakery is a specialty shop where everything is made with the customer in mind. Allergies? Food sensitivities? No problem. They take extra care to help people eat safely while enabling them to still enjoy their favorite snacks and desserts. In fact, when someone calls with a special request, the baker will engage the customer and ask about the acceptable milk, oil and any other ingredients she can use for both a healthful alternative and a tasty outcome. They are peanut and sesame free and use tree nuts as infrequently as possible. If she does use nuts extra precautions are put into place to maintain food safety. As a result, they work with allergies to soy, dairy, wheat, nuts, eggs, etc. because it is a small shop with a niche audience, they request a day’s notice and then, they will prepare your favorite dessert just for you. There is such a taste difference when you start with fresh ingredients like flour, sugar, cocoa and the like. The baker sifts these ingredients to create their delicious signature desserts. Among these are cheesecakes in a variety of flavors, strawberry shortcake, which is light and fluffy, and their famous chocolate mousse. Yum! If you are tired of commercially prepared baked goods with a flat taste, make your way to the Sunflower Bake Shop located at 346 Hempstead Ave in West Hempstead where preservatives and additives are never on the menu. Call them at (516) 486-2253. In addition, they are certified kosher under the VHQ. They are looking forward to speaking with you.
