LYNBROOK, NY — A Lynbrook resident started a fundraiser for several family members whose Lahaina home was destroyed by the Maui wildfires.

Marian Cerisier said her aunt, Monet, and her three teenage girls; uncle, Boyet, and his wife; and uncle, Ben, who has two little girls; lost their home after the "devastating fire."

"The wildfires on Maui have decimated their house, pets, belongings and tools for their livelihoods," Cerisier wrote on the GoFundMe. "Everything turned into ashes. They are safe and sheltering with friends and their workplaces but they have lost everything and will need to rebuild from scratch. Pls [sic] consider helping them out. No amount is too small. Thank you in advance for helping my family rebuild."

A GoFundMe spokeswoman said the company is working "around the clock" to ensure the Maui community receives the support they need.

"Our hearts go out to everyone impacted by the wildfires in Maui," she said.

The fundraising site's Trust & Safety team is reviewing and verifying related fundraisers. To make it easier for people who want to help those affected, GoFundMe launched a centralized hub of verified fundraisers related to the Maui wildfires. This hub will continue to be updated as fundraisers are verified.
