OLP Tag Sale for Student Fighting Cancer Exceeds Expectations

With support of community, Our Lady of Peace raises more than $5K for DePinto Family.

The tag sale that Our Lady of Peace School in Lynbrook held Saturday to benefit one of its students who is fighting cancer was a major success.

Through the sale of items donated and purchased by OLP families and the community at large, OLP raised more than $5,000, which will be donated to the family of sixth grader Mary DePinto as she continues to battle Ewing's sarcoma. Since March, the Valley Stream girl, 11, has undergone chemotherapy, radiation, surgery and other medical treatments for a malignant bone tumor

To express their gratitude to the community for supporting the fundraiser, OLP Principal Sr. Mary Dowden wrote the following letter along with Mrs. Harmon, the school nurse, and Ms. Von Braunsberg, the school's Dean of Students and a physical education and health teacher. Together they organized the tag sale.
