GARDEN CITY, NY — Saturday marks 20 years since America was attacked at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a crash in a Shanksville, PA field.

While it is a reflective day for families and friends of victims, former president Donald Trump is getting criticism for his plans.

Trump is expected to be part of an announcing team as former heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield, 58, returns to the ring against Vitor Belfort.

"I, along with millions of Americans, am stunned that former President Trump has decided to stay in Florida and take part in a boxing match on the 20th Anniversary of September 11th instead of honoring the heroes and those lost when America was attacked," Jason Abelove, an attorney running for Town of Hempstead supervisor, said in a statement.

Holyfield was a last-minute decision for another boxing great Oscar De La Hoya, who tested positive for COVID-19 and was hospitalized.

More than 300 Nassau County residents died in the 9/11 terror attacks that killed approximately 3,000 people.

"While our other surviving former presidents will attend somber events and reflect on how those cowardly attacks forever changed this country, Mr. Trump will be sitting ringside in Florida," Abelove said.

Trump's son, Donald Trump Jr. is expected to also provide on-air analysis of the fight from a hotel in Hollywood, Florida.

The 45th president was a major player in the fight game, hosting several top bouts in the 1980s and 1990s at his Atlantic City casinos.

"He will see no more powerful punch in the match than the one he has delivered to New York and the rest of America," Abelove said.
