Massapequa BOE Celebrates Fall Sports Champions At Meeting
The meeting took place Thursday, Jan. 8, with the Massapequa field hockey, football and boys' volleyball teams receiving accolades.
MASSAPEQUA, NY. — Massapequa celebrated a trio of champions at Thursday night’s board of education meeting, as the board hosted a championship celebration for Massapequa’s varsity field hockey, football and boys volleyball teams.
Players from each team were gifted championship t-shirts by the school’s athletic department, while Board of Education President Kerry Wachter and Interim Director for Physical Education, Health, Athletics and Recreation Matt McLees both commended the student-athletes’ achievements.
“There’s always so much success to celebrate with our teams,” Superintendent Dr.
William Brennan said at the meeting. In his remarks, Brennan said Massapequa’s athletes exemplify character, pride, resilience and teamwork.

For the field hockey team, 2025 included a fifth-straight Nassau County championship, while the varsity football team won its third-straight Long Island championship and second Rutgers Cup in three years, an award given to the best overall team in Nassau County. For the boys volleyball team, the 2025 season was perfect; the team finished the year without a loss on its way to its first New York State championship ever.
