'YES staff are essential': Massapequa Heroes

MASSAPEQUA, NY — When times are tough, heroes emerge. We all know someone who's making a difference right now as we live through unprecedented and changing times.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. Together with Ring, we’re working to let all your neighbors know about these outstanding people and their stories.

This submission comes from Adrienne LoPresti, who nominated the staff of the YES Community Counseling Center of Massapequa. LoPresti is an administrator at the YES center, which offers counseling and substance-abuse services for Long Islanders, among many other services.

Reason for recognition: Since the beginning of the pandemic, YES staff were determined
to keep their services active without disruption to respond to the emotional needs of their
community members, often working additional hours to distribute food and respond to
crises.
One thing to know: While navigating working remotely, caring for family, remote teaching,
and coping with loss, staff was determined to keep services active and accessible. The
emotional health of our community is a priority and YES staff are essential!
