MEDFORD, NY — A Medford pharmacy was left scrambling Tuesday morning to fill medications for local long-term care facilities after a vehicle involved in a crash careened into the area where its supply is stored, authorities said.

A vehicle involved in a two-vehicle crash on Route 112 just after 7 a.m., struck Medford Chemists, which was closed at the time, Suffolk police.

No one was seriously injured in the crash, but the area where the car landed inside the building held storage for medications used by local long-term care facilities, pharmacy owner Dr. Ricky Vohora said.

About $200,000 worth of medications were possibly damaged, leaving him and his staff scrambling to fill much-needed orders, he said.

"I am just grateful that my staff and the two drivers were not seriously injured," Vohora said. "That's what's most important here."

The vehicle crashed through the building, taking out a wall, but not the support beams, Vohora said.

"The whole wall is gone," he said.

Had the beams been taken out, the pharmacy would have been shut down by the Brookhaven Town Building Inspector's office, according to Vohora.

In the meantime, a company has secured the shored up the building so that it is secured and the pharmacy's staff has continued working, but it is still too early to see how the scenario will play out, Vohora said.

"It's going to take a toll for sure," he added.
