Calhoun Honors Students, Teachers at Blue and Gray Awards
These Bellmore-Merrick students and teachers were honored for working hard and overcoming obstacles.

Fourteen students and 12 teachers were recognized for their efforts this year at Sanford H. Calhoun High School’s Annual Blue and Gray Awards Dinner.
The Blue and Gray Awards are presented as an opportunity to honor students who have worked hard, overcome obstacles and contributed to the spirit of Calhoun High School. In return, the students nominated and recognized a teacher who has had a positive impact on their education and development as young adults.
During many of the touching tributes between student and teacher, the speakers shared anecdotes that illustrated the honorees dedication, sense of humor and contribution to the school community.

Alternating between teachers and students, the teachers were called up first to present the award, a bronze Colt and accompanying plaque, to the student and then the student was asked to deliver a brief speech about their nominated teacher.
Some teachers were called up to accept an award from more than one student.
