2 Family Members Now Dead In Sullivan County Drownings
A third family member is still in critical condition, police said.
BETHEL, NY — Another person has died because of drownings over the past weekend in Sullivan County.
The New York State Police said Afrid Haider, 34, the uncle of Basir Amin, died. The Bellerose, Nassau County, had been in critical condition since being rescued from White Lake in the town of Bethel.
Police said Basir Amin, 18, also of Bellerose, had been swimming in the lake around 10 a.m. Sunday. He began to struggle in a deep portion of the lake.

His sister, Nasrin Amin, 21, and Haider tried to help him, but all three went under the water and did not resurface.
Responding divers from the Bethel Fire Department recovered them, after they'd been under the surface for a period of time.

Lifesaving measures were begun and they were all taken to Garnet Health Medical Center – Catskills.
Basir Amin was pronounced dead Sunday. Haider died Monday.
Nasrin Amin is still listed in critical condition, police said.
