2 Septuagenarians Die From Hit-And-Run In Hudson Valley

Police said a man in a wheelchair was being pushed across 9W by a woman when they were both struck by a car that left the scene.

MARLBORO, NY — Two septuagenarians, one of whom was in a wheelchair, were struck by a car that left the scene in Marlboro Friday.

The New York State Police said, shortly before 9:30 p.m. Friday, troopers were sent to 1347 Route 9W in the town of Marlboro for a report of a hit-and-run fatal collision involving two pedestrians.

A preliminary investigation found that Donna Cristallo, 72, of Kingston, was pushing Stephen Celluch, 75, also of Kingston, in his wheelchair from the east side of 9W to the west side.

When they got to the southbound lane of traffic, a 2020 Kia Fortes struck them both.

Celuch was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cristallo was taken by EMS to St. Luke’s Hospital where she died of her injuries.

Police said the Kia left the area and was stopped by members of the Town of Newburgh Police Department on North Plank Road.

The driver of the car was identified as Angela Fischl, 25, of Newburgh, according to the state police.

Authorities said the investigation into the death and any contributing factors is ongoing.
