Arizona Man Accused Of Assisting With A Suicide In Kingston
Police said first responders were called to a Super 8 motel in Kingston in 2023 for a report of an unconscious and unresponsive person.
KINGSTON, NY — An 85-year-old Arizona man was accused of assisting in a 2023 suicide in Kingston.
The City of Kingston Fire Department and other EMS personnel were sent to the Super 8 on Washington Avenue in Kingston for a report of an unconscious and unresponsive person in a motel room.
First responders said it initially appeared that the person committed suicide alone in the motel room.

Further investigation developed evidence that there had been a second person present who contributed to or assisted in the suicide.
Following a more detailed investigation and consultation with the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office, police said an arrest warrant was issued for Stephen P. Miller, 85, of Tuscon, Arizona, for second-degree manslaughter, in which a person intentionally causes or aids another person to commit suicide.

Authorities said Miller is not related to the person who died.
On Friday, Miller was processed on the charge by the Kingston Police Department and arraigned in Ulster County Court.
He was also indicted and arraigned on the following charges, stemming from the incident: second-degree manslaughter, first-degree assault and second-degree assault.
Following the arraignment, Miller was sent to the Ulster County Jail on $500,000 bail, $1 million bond or $3 million partially secured bond.
