Author and Journalist Lee Woodruff To Speak at Women’s Leadership Council Breakfast

Join women of influence and inspiration on Tuesday, December 6.

White Plains, N.Y. (November, 2016) – Mark your calendars to join women of influence and inspiration on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 for United Way Women’s Leadership Council 4th Annual Celebration of Women in Philanthropy. The breakfast event, from 8-10 am at Abigail Kirsch at Tappan Hill in Tarrytown, brings together like-minded business women and community leaders to network, while raising critical funds to help women and children in Westchester and Putnam.

Author and journalist Lee Woodruff will be the event’s special keynote speaker. As co-author of the New York Times best-selling In an Instant, Woodruff garnered critical acclaim for the compelling and humorous chronicle of her family’s journey to recovery following her husband Bob’s roadside bomb injury in Iraq. Appearing together on national television and radio since the February 2007 publication of their book, the couple has helped put a face on the serious issue of traumatic brain injury among returning Iraq war veterans, as well as the millions of Americans who live with this often invisible, but life-changing affliction. They have founded the Bob Woodruff Foundation to assist wounded service members and their families. To date, the foundation has raised more than $20 million to help veterans successfully reintegrate into their communities and receive critical long-term care. A Westchester resident, Woodruff is an award-winning author, media and communications consultant, contributing reporter for “CBS This Morning” and “Good Morning America” and a nationally sought-after speaker.

The Women’s Leadership Council will proudly award its “Woman of Distinction” recognition to Dr. Marsha Gordon, President and CEO of The Business Council of Westchester, for the significant impact her leadership has made on our community and its residents. Widely considered the authority on the region’s business climate, Marsha Gordon leads the largest business membership organization in Westchester which helps businesses of all sizes build, connect and win. Gordon was named by Gov. Cuomo to the Mid-Hudson Regional Economic Council helping lead economic growth for Westchester and the lower Hudson Valley, and she led the charge in the construction of the new Tappan Zee Bridge.

The United Way Women’s Leadership Council is forging the way to a better future for others through their gifts of time, leadership and financial support. The WLC focuses philanthropy and volunteerism on helping Westchester and Putnam women in poverty attain financial self-sufficiency for themselves and their families, and ensuring all children learn to read on grade level by the end of third grade so they can succeed in school and life.

Lisa Salvadorini, News 12 Westchester Anchor and Managing Editor, will once again emcee the annual WLC event. KeyBank and PURE Insurance are proud to return as sponsors of the 2016 Women’s Leadership Council Breakfast.
