Body Found In Ulster Woods Leads To Murder Charge: PD

Police said the man accused of being involved in the death had tried to kill himself.

ULSTER, NY — An arrest has been made in the death of a woman whose body was found in a wooded area in the town of Ulster.

The Ulster Police Department said the body of a woman was found around 8:20 a.m. Sept. 1 in the woods off Eastern Parkway in the town of Ulster.

Law enforcement said the investigation found she was the victim of a homicide and Johnny Amaro, 49, of Ulster, was charged with second-degree murder, a felony.

Amaro, police said, had tried to kill himself on the Kingston Rhinecliff Bridge earlier in the day Sept. 1.

He was processed on the murder charge at the Ulster Police Department and arraigned in the Town of Ulster Court before being sent to the Ulster County Jail without bail.

Authorities said, as a result of the ongoing investigation, the woman's name will not be released.

The Ulster Police Department was assisted by the Ulster County District Attorney's Office, the New York State Police, the Ulster County Sheriff's Office, the Kingston Police Department and the Saugerties Police Department.
