Columbia County Man Accused Of Slashing Attack: NYSP

Police said the attack was thought to be unprovoked.

CLAVERACK, NY — A Columbia County man was accused of slashing another person in a motel room.

The New York State Police said Nicholas P. Beer, 48, of Claverack, was arrested Monday and charged with second-degree assault and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, felonies.

Shortly before 8 p.m. Monday, troopers responded to the Yorkshire Motel in Claverack for an assault with a knife.

An investigation found that Beer, in what was believed to be an unprovoked attack, slashed another person with a knife.

That person was taken to Columbia Memorial Hospital with injuries not considered to be life-threatening.

Beer was arraigned in the Town of Claverack Court and sent to the Columbia County Jail without bail.

He is scheduled to reappear in court Friday.
