Father Of Missing Child Accused Of Burglary In Saugerties

SAUGERTIES, NY — Two men, one of whom was accused of being involved in the abduction of his daughter, were arrested Friday in Ulster County after being accused of burglary.

The Town of Saugerties Police Department said Kirk D. Shultis Jr., 33, of Saugerties, was charged with second-degree burglary, a felony, and Matthew S. Doyle, 40, of Saugerties, was charged with two counts of second-degree burglary, felonies.

Shultis was arraigned in the Town of Saugerties Justice Court and sent to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.

Doyle was also arraigned and sent to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and additional charges are pending.

Shultis Jr., his father Kirk Shultis Sr. and Kimberly Cooper were arrested Feb. 14 after Paislee Shultis, 6, was found hidden under a staircase in a Fawn Road home in Saugerties.

Authorities said the child was found with Cooper, who is her mother.

Paislee Shultis was reported missing from Spencer in Tioga County in 2019 when she was 4 years old.

Police said, at the time, she was believed to have been abducted by Cooper and Shultis Jr., who are her noncustodial parents.
