Georgia Man Arrested For Attempted Murder In Hudson Valley: Police

An Uber driver confirmed that his vehicle had been damaged by bullet strikes July 31.

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — A man from Georgia was arrested after being accused of trying to kill someone he was following.

The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department said Nieger T. Foley, 21, of Suwanee, Georgia, was arrested Saturday and charged with second-degree attempted murder, a felony.

He was arraigned in the Town of Poughkeepsie Justice Court and sent to Dutchess County Jail on $100,000 bail, $200,000 bond or $400,000 partially secured bond.

Foley is due to return to the Town of Poughkeepsie Court at a later date.

Police said, shortly before 3 a.m. July 31, officers responded to the area of Maisie Court for numerous reports of gunshots being fired at a vehicle.

Officers found the intended victim and witnesses outside a home on Maisie Court and also located an Uber driver in the area who confirmed his vehicle had damage from several bullet strikes while dropping off a fare.

During the course of the investigation, police said it was learned that the victim had been followed to the location by Foley, who had been planning to kill the victim.

Charges were filed against Foley and officers began searching for him.

On Saturday, members of the City of Newburgh Police Department located Foley and took him into custody. He was taken to the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department for arrest processing.

The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department was assisted by the Hudson Valley FBI Safe Streets Task Force, Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police Community Stabilization Unit in Troop F, City of Newburgh Police Department, New Windsor Police Department and City of Poughkeepsie Police Department.

Police said the incident is still under investigation. Anyone with information pertaining to the case is asked to call the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Detective Division at 845-485-3666.
