Man Charged In Fatal Stabbing In Poughkeepsie: PD

The victim died after being transported for medical treatment following the Saturday attack, according to police.

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — A local man is accused of fatally stabbing a 51-year-old man in the chest on Saturday night.

Police responded around 9:40 p.m. to reports of a male bleeding in the area of 27 Academy St., police said.

Emergency personnel transported the man for medical treatment, but he didn’t survive, police said. As of Monday, police were withholding the victim’s identity, pending notification of his family.

Police on Sunday announced they had charged Robert Robinson, 59, of Poughkeepsie, with second-degree murder, a Class A-I felony.

According to police, an investigation determined the stabbing happened nearby, in front of 48 Cannon St. Police did not provide details on a possible motive for the attack.

Robinson has four prior felony convictions, according to police. He remained in custody pending his arraignment Monday.

Police said they believe Robinson acted alone. There is no ongoing threat to the public, according to police.
