Man Sexually Assaults Victim, Threatens With Machete: NYSP
Police initially responded to a home in the town of Mamakating for a report of domestic disturbance.

BLOOMINGBURG, NY — A Sullivan County man was accused of threatening someone with a machete and then sexually assaulting them.
The New York State Police said Joseph Callas, 20, of Bloomingburg, was arrested and charged with third-degree rape, a felony, and second-degree menacing, criminal obstruction of breathing, third-degree assault and unlawful dissemination or publication of an intimate image, misdemeanors.
Police said, around 8:15 a.m. Monday, troopers from the Wurtsboro barracks responded to a home in the town of Mamakating for a report of domestic disturbance.

An investigation found Callas threatened the victim with a machete and physically and sexually assaulted the victim.
He was arraigned in the Town of Mamakating Court and sent to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $35,000 bail, $70,000 bond or $120,000 partially secured bond.
