Middletown Man Sentenced For Breaking Into Bar, Vehicles

The man pleaded guilty in November, but police said he was rearrested while waiting to be sentenced.

MIDDLETOWN, NY — An Orange County man found out he will be spending time behind bars after pleading guilty to burglary and having stolen items in his possession.

Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler said that on Tuesday David Mead, 32, of Middletown, was sentenced to three to six years in prison in connection with his previous guilty pleas to third-degree burglary and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.

After Mead pleaded guilty in November, he was subsequently rearrested three times while he was waiting to be sentenced.

Prosecutors said he had violated the conditions of his plea and was subject to the enhanced sentence that was imposed.

According to documents and statements made in court, in the early morning hours of Oct. 20, Mead broke a window at a bar in the village of Montgomery and entered to find money.

Later that same day, he broke into a vehicle in the town of Wawayanda and stole credit cards that he attempted to use.

Two days later, in the town of New Windsor, Mead broke into another vehicle and stole tools.

When he was arrested on Oct. 24, members of the Town of Newburgh Police Department recovered property in Mead’s vehicle that was stolen in New Windsor.
