When they were taken into custody, there were three other people in the car, police said.

LIBERTY, NY — Two minor siblings were accused of carjacking in Sullivan County.

The New York State Police said, around 10:30 p.m. Friday, troopers were sent to Main Street in Parksville in the town of Liberty for a report of a carjacking in progress.

A preliminary investigation found that the owner of a 2018 Subaru Forester was driving home when he was flagged down by a woman who asked for a ride.

The man was pushed out of the car and the two people fled the area in the car, according to authorities.

Troopers said they found the car traveling west on Route 17 in the town of Thompson and initiated a traffic stop.

Both persons were in the car along with three other minors, police said.

All of them were taken to the state police barracks in Liberty, where it was determined that the other people in the care were not involved in the theft.

The two minors who were accused of stealing the car are siblings, police said, and were charged with second-degree robbery.

They were released on Family Court appearance tickets.
