Mom Violates Custody Order Picking Up Her Child From School: Police

Police said the woman's boyfriend was also charged with felony custodial interference.

WALLKILL, NY — Two people were arrested after being accused of trying to pick up a child from school in violation of a custody and visitation order.

The Town of Wallkill Police Department said that, around 3:15 p.m. Friday, officers responded to a report of “custodial interference” at the Maple Hill Elementary School.

On arrival, they were informed by school officials that the mother of a student picked up her child from the school in violation of a custody and visitation order.

Around 8:30 p.m., the child, the child’s mother, Chana Elena Morales, 22, of the Bronx, and her boyfriend, Johntae Xavier Williams, 22, also of the Bronx, were located in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

An investigation led to the arrest of Morales who was charged with first-degree custodial interference and second-degree criminal contempt, felonies, and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.

She was arraigned and released on her own recognizance to appear in the Town of Wallkill Court Feb. 1.

Williams was also arrested and charged with first-degree custodial interference, a felony, and fourth-degree criminal facilitation, a misdemeanor. He was released with an appearance ticket to return to court Feb. 1.

The investigation was conducted with the assistance of the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, New York State Police, FBI, Secaucus Police Department, East Rutherford Police Department and Carlstadt Police Department.
