Prosecutors said Lamont Williams shot and killed a Newburgh man and wounded a child who was riding a bicycle.

NEWBURGH, NY — A Newburgh man accused of shooting a killing another Newburgh man and wounding a 5-year-old will face three felony charges.

Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler said Wednesday that Lamont Williams, 29, of Newburgh, was arraigned in Orange County Court on an unsealed indictment charging him with second-degree murder, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree assault.

Williams was sent to the Orange County Jail in lieu of bail, Hoovler said.

A 5-year-old boy was riding a bicycle and was shot in the leg as well.

Corbett and the child were taken to the hospital. Corbett died of his injuries, and the child was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center.

Williams was tracked to North Carolina and was taken into custody by the United States Marshals Service.

He was extradited back to New York for the arraignment on the sealed charges, officials said.

Hoovler said he was grateful for the cooperation of the various law enforcement agencies in this case that have ensured Williams was returned to Orange County to face justice.

“Those who commit senseless violent acts will not escape the long arm of the law,” he said.

“I extend my condolences to the families of the victims in this case and pledge the dedicated efforts of my office to hold the defendant accountable for his alleged actions,” Hoovler said.
