Pedestrian Hit By Car in Middletown: State Police

The male victim was listed in critical condition as of Wednesday, police said.

MIDDLETOWN, NY — A pedestrian was struck by a car and critically injured Tuesday night, according to state police.

The accident happened around 8:45 p.m. at the intersection of Dolson Avenue and County Route 78, police said, in a press release issued Wednesday.

A preliminary investigation shows that a 2014 Mazda, operated by Nancy A. Zitzmann, 64, of Middletown, was traveling northbound on Dolson with a green light, according to police.

The pedestrian, a 31-year-old man from Wurtsboro, was walking eastbound across the crosswalk at Dolson Avenue and County Route 78, police said.

According to police, Zitzmann failed to yield the right of way and struck the pedestrian.

The driver remained at the scene and called for assistance.

Emergency medical personnel performed life-saving measures on the pedestrian at the scene. He was initially taken to Garnet Health Medical Center. He was later transferred by helicopter to Westchester Medical Center due to the severity of his injuries, police said. As of Wednesday, the pedestrian remained in critical condition.
