Pedestrian Struck, Killed By Car In Sullivan County
Police said the man had gotten out of a car to inspect damage from hitting a deer when he was struck by another vehicle.
MAMAKATING, NY — A man was stuck and killed by a car Friday after the car in which he was riding a deer.
The New York State Police said troopers were sent around 6:40 p.m. Friday to Route 209 in the town of Mamakating in Sullivan County for a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.
A preliminary investigation found that James F. Harrington, 70, from the town of Deerpark, was a passenger in a car driven by his son, James Harrington, 33, of Mamakating.

They were going south on Route 209 when they struck a deer.
The men both got out of the car to assess the damage, and the son said he saw a car traveling north when he heard a crash.

As the car continued traveling north, the son saw his father injured on the ground.
The vehicle that struck the elder Harrington was a 2020 Honda CRV, driven by James Christiano, 78, of Minisink.
After the collision, police said Christiano stayed at the scene and showed no signs of impairment. Further investigation found that he was not using a cellphone before or during the crash.
James F. Harrington was taken to Garnet Health Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Police said the fatal collision is under investigation.
